The Fox grape (Vitis labrusca) is native to New England. Each year, I wait for it to ripen and feast on it, climbing trees to reach them if necessary.

In 1849, Ephraim Wales Bull, in Concord, Massachusetts, developed the Concord Grape. And, in 1869, Dr. Thomas Bramwell Welch, a minister developed the first Concord grape juice, which he named “Dr. Welch's Unfermented Wine” and used in his church for communion. Welch’s grape juice and jellies have become a part of popular culture.
